Sometimes, ideas take a while to come to fruition. That’s how I feel about my next wearable series. Although I’ve been collecting ideas and sketching out some rough concepts, nothing has quite come together yet. I can’t seem to tap into that energy—maybe because my mind has been elsewhere. Lately, I’ve been focused on a new project: wall sculptures.
In addition to some major traveling and two moves, I’ve been creating a series of paper wall sculptures. The idea began in Berlin, where I became obsessed with the shapes I used in Fractal. I started making them from paper and arranging them in repeating patterns. Everything is white, allowing me to focus purely on lines and patterns, while also enjoying the unexpected role light plays, shifting shadows depending on the light source.
I’ve experimented with size, creating pieces in 36x36”, 30x30”, and 18x24”. Ultimately, I love the largest ones. They feel more like an experience. Also, each piece brings delightful surprises—I can’t predict the movement that happens within the pattern as our eyes dart around searching for the rhythm.
I find order, organization, and patterns both exciting and calming. In this chaotic world, I hope my pieces offer a moment of serenity—beauty in the quiet rhythm and order found in the repetition of simple elements.
If you're in the New York area, I will have my newest pieces on display at Mana Contemporary's Open Studios on May 18, 2025 from 12-6pm at 888 Newark Ave. in Jersey City, NJ. Stop by and say hi!
